As moms of young children, life is hectic as the work of raising kids is never ending. I have to admit that since giving birth to my second baby, life has been a blur. One day blends into the next as I nurse, change diapers, and play with my littles. God has called me to be a mom, and I can’t help but believe that raising these little people is the best thing I’ll ever do.
But what if God is calling us to do more?
It would be easy for me to claim that my job is motherhood now and abandon all other work of furthering the gospel. After all, raising my children in God’s grace is the most important thing I’ll ever do. They are are my everything! My world. But before I was a mom, I was a child of God and God has a plan for my life that is bigger than my own plans.
It’s scary to reach out to others and let God use you, but that’s the gospel. I am learning more and more that the best way to teach my children is by example. If they see me putting God first, even above them, then they will learn the importance of doing the same. It’s not motherhood now and I’ll do other things later. It’s motherhood and Jesus. Raising kids and spreading the gospel all at once.
The world is full of people who need Jesus just as much as our kids do. I hear moms talking all the time about how lonely they are. Our generation has lost the village to social media and Facebook mom groups and we are lonely. We are constantly told to remember how quickly time passes and soak up every moment of motherhood. We are supposed to focus on our kids because they won’t be little for long. But in doing so we are missing out on friendship and blessings. So I’m challenging myself to trust God more than I ever have before. I’m giving Him the wheel and asking Him to guide towards his Will. I’m holding my babies close and I’m also looking outward. I’m willing to accept whatever job God gives me. I’m looking for ways to focus on others and I’m writing as God speaks to my heart.
I don’t expect this to be easy. I’d rather just focus on my kids but I realize that they need to see their mom loving others so here I am. Willing to answer the call.
What about you? Are you willing to let God use you? You could you reach out to? How can God use you? In a world full of people who don’t know Jesus, God has a plan for your life. Let Him use you. You won’t regret it!
